Children benefit most from teachers who have the skills, knowledge, and judgment to make good decisions and are given the opportunity to use them- Susan Bredekamp
Fianlly learning occurs within the context of social relationships with other members of the community who have similar, if not identical, issues and concerns from the realm of practice- Virginia Buysse
I think your first quote is wonderful, because it states that children are learning what they need to have the foundation to their education from the professionals that care about their own education first. Teachers that have the pride to continue on to expand their skills, knowledge and oppurtunities in the field are going to give the children that they care for a chance of a lifetime by giving them the foundation that they deserve.
ReplyDeleteI am really an advocate for the type of learning that occurs within the context of social relationships. After all we are all social beings and to deprive a child of this type of setting, that child will soon feel as if he or she is a "misfit" in society. That is why the teacher/professional needs to create the atmosphere for this type of learning through play, and small group interactions.
