Topic Selection
The topic that I chose is "What is play?". I chose this topic because I have heard all too often parents state that there is no need for play in the classroom because their child needs to learn instead of play. Parents fail to realize that while their children are playing they are learning as well. They are learning about the similarities and differences between them and their classmates and sometimes other cultures. They have the opportunity to learn about music at a young age and the appreciation for art. Yes it may seem like doodling on a piece of paper but in acutality the child is learning how to control their hand for wrting as well as making certain shapes. Play is just a gudie for children to be able to explore.

Play is a wonderful topic to research and I have chosen the same one. I agree, that parents do not fully understand the importance of play in their child's life. Play is how children learn and explore their world around them. Play is a child's work. I have had so many parents over the years come to me while teaching their children and ask me what the importance of play is for their children and then comment that their children play to much and do not learn enough while at school. Great topic. I hope you learn a lot. Let me know what resources you find and maybe we can help each other.
ReplyDeleteI love that you choose play as your research topic. Many parents don't quite understand that children learn through play. Play at an early age is very important because it not only helps with children’s learning and developing it helps them to engage socially with their peers.

ReplyDeletePersonally, I too am interested in knowing how to utilize play more and more in my classroom. The research is constantly showing that when children are able to explore for themselves they will improve their creativity and this is what play means. This certainly will help to reduce worksheets and increase more hands-on-experience. I do hope to learn from your research on play.
Thank you for your post!

Hi Kami,
ReplyDeletePlay is a must in a child's life. It's good for their physical, mental and social growth. It's also a great way for parents to bond with their children and learn about their perception of life and help guide them.
